Iskanderkul and the Fann Mountains Day Trip — 1 day

A one-day excursion from Dushanbe to Iskanderkul lake is one of the finest routes for discovering the nature of Tajikistan and the scenic Fann Mountains. Along the way you can expect striking mountain landscapes, deep valleys, tunnels and sweeping views of the Fann range.

The centrepiece of the route is the famous Iskanderkul lake, lying at an altitude of around 2,195 metres above sea level. Its vivid turquoise water and the surrounding peaks make Iskanderkul one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in Tajikistan.

The lake’s name is traditionally linked to Alexander the Great — Iskander. An excursion to Iskanderkul is ideal for anyone who wants to see the natural landmarks of Tajikistan, spend a day in the mountains and discover one of the best-known places in the Fann Mountains.
Programme
08:00 — Departure from your hotel in Dushanbe
We collect you from your hotel in a comfortable 4×4 mountain vehicle and set off towards the Fann Mountains.
Along the way you will see scenic mountain landscapes, including the Anzob tunnel and the valleys around it.
Iskanderkul lake
On arrival we stop at Iskanderkul to enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the mountains around it.
Snake Lake
The route then continues to the small and unusual Snake Lake, known for its scenery and its local legends.
A walk to the “Fann Niagara”
After that comes an easy walk to the Fann Niagara — a beautiful mountain waterfall formed by the Iskanderdarya river.
The route is short and calls for no special physical preparation, so there is time to enjoy the nature of the Fann Mountains at a relaxed pace.
After visiting the waterfall we return to the vehicle and head back to Dushanbe.
